Shabbat Study

Discover the richness of Torah study at Beth Tzedec each Shabbat. Our Synagogue offers a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages, interests, and knowledge levels to engage in Jewish learning and embrace a vibrant Jewish lifestyle.

Kabbalat Shabbat on Friday evening and the Sanctuary service Saturday morning create a spiritual experience, complemented by beautiful cantorial music.

Sanctuary Services led by Rabbi Steve Wernick offer a chance to connect with the weekly Torah study through teachings that are spiritually illuminating and thoughtful.

Shabbat Morning Fun offers a mix of play and age-appropriate learning, finishing with blessings and snacks. Children three and under require adult accompaniment, those ages four and up can be dropped off.

The Little Minyan offers a traditional service with more active involvements from the congregation. A full sermon (derashah), or a shorter commentary / discourse (dvar torah) are given, often by participants. Join Rabbi Fryer Bodzin before each Little Minyan Service for some Shabbat morning learning before we begin Tefillah.

Talking Torah with Daniel Silverman, Director of Education and Family Programming, shares learned and insightful literary and theological interpretations of the weekly Torah portion.

Each month we offer special services for you to experience different flavours of Shabbat. Our Shabbat From The Floor features Cantor Sidney Ezer, Yacov Fruchter and Aviva Chernick joining together in song. Our monthly Short & Sweet Multi-Generational Family Service including our guest UJA Shinshinim (teen ambassadors from Israel) offers a lively, engaging prayer service incorporating the participation of the children, teens and families in attendance, followed by a community dairy luncheon.

Shabbat study at Beth Tzedec is rich and fulfilling. Experience the depth of understanding that brings to the principles, laws, customs, and history that have shaped Jewish life for millennia. No special training needed!
