Out of the Cold Volunteer Registration is Open, The 23rd season of the Beth Sholom/Beth Tzedec Out of the Cold Shelter will operate on Monday nights from January 15th, 2024 through April 1, 2024. We provide a hot meal, clothing, entertainment, an art program and BINGO for 150 of Toronto’s homeless and needy people in our community. We also offer a bagged lunch and a one time ttc pass each week. For volunteer information and registration, click here>>
The distribution of warm clothing is one of the most essential services we provide to our guests. We greatly appreciate your clothing donations. Please note that we only accept new or nearly-new adult-sized items, and only the following items: down coats, ski jackets, parkas, snow pants, sweaters, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweat pants, flannel shirts, short and long-sleeved t-shirts, blue jeans, corduroy pants, winter boots, hiking boots, running shoes, thermal underwear, gloves and mitts. Brand new underwear and sports bras are needed as well. Clothing can be dropped off at Beth Sholom Synagogue anytime from Monday to Thursday between 9 am and 4 pm.
After Shabbat, on February 24, Beth Tzedec will be partnering with Ve'ahavta in hosting their Coldest Night of the Year walk. The Coldest Night of the Year is a winterrific family-friendly walk to raise money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. Coldest Night of the Year not only creates awareness about the challenges people affected by poverty and homelessness face – it is an opportunity to raise vital funds to help meet the growing demand for Ve’ahavta’s lifesaving and life-changing programs. We encourage you sign-up, fundraise and join nearly 40,000 walkers in saying “We care!” To sign up, please click here>>
Join us monthly as we gather to learn about different causes in our community, and participate in a hands-on activity. We'll spend the first half hour discussing the organization, their impact, and the work they do, and the remaining time working on the project.
We will meet one Sunday a month, from 7 - 9 pm.
This event is a series, and registering for it indicates a commitment to attend for the duration of the year (Sept 2024 - June 2025). At the end of the year, participants will receive 20 community service hours.
