Crisis and Renewal in North American Synagogues

The second in our series,a cooperative effort of Holy Blossom Temple, Beth Tzedec Congregation and the Centre for Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto.

Our keynote address will come from Rabbi Lawrence Hoffman, professor at Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion and co-founder of the ground-breaking Synagogue 3000 Institute, a leading force in synagogue transformation.

Rabbi Michal Shekel, Executive Director of the Toronto Board of Rabbis and Rabbi Aaron Levy, founding Rabbi of Makom, will comment on local trends in and outside the walls of the synagogue. 

This evening is bound to spark new conversations among Jewish leadership across the city. Come be part of it as we consider how to respond to the ever-changing needs of the Jewish community.


In the first part of this series, more than 350 Jewish professionals and lay people gathered at Beth Tzedec Congregation on Thursday December 6th for the first of the two-part series with speakers Professor Jeffrey Kopstein, the Director of the Centre of Jewish Studies moderated the panel with keynote speaker, Professor Jonathan Sarna of Brandeis University, Rabbi Martin Lockshin of Toronto’s Partnership Minyan and Rabbi Miriam Margles from the Danforth Jewish Circle.
