A Message from the Ritual Committee About High Holy Day Honours
Beth Tzedec
Jun 3rd 2019

Dear Friends,

We hope you are well and enjoying spring!

We at Beth Tzedec are already deep into our planning for the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Our planning centers around our priorities of personal engagement within our larger community and inviting you to enjoy a variety of options for meaningful and relevant prayer services and experiences. We are getting ready for what will undoubtedly be an exciting opportunity for each of us as we welcome new rabbis joining our spiritual leadership team for these special days.

One meaningful way we ensure more personal engagement is to invite and encourage you, our members, to participate in the High Holy Days through a High Holy Day Honour. Some of those Honours include, but are not limited to:

  • Aliyot to the Torah
  • Opening the Ark
  • Carrying a Torah in the processional or recessional
  • An English reading or prayer

These Honours are available in whichever service you attend.

We hope to be able to accommodate all requests and we would be pleased to offer a brief orientation if you wish, to enhance your Honour experience, address any concerns you may have and familiarize you with what to expect. If you would like more information, please feel free to be in touch.

Please contact Rev. Lorne Hanick (lhanick@beth-tzedec.org) and Larry Wallach (lfw@wallach.ca) to let us know if you are interested in receiving an Honour, what prayer experience you attend and whether or not you can participate in a Hebrew prayer. And please introduce yourself the next time you see us at Beth Tzedec.

Thank you,

The Ritual Committee
