Koolulam is a social musical initiative aimed at empowering communities and strengthening the fabric of society. As we prepare for the High Holy Days at Beth Tzedec, we're partnering with the organization to help our members connect to each other and the theme of our holy day season, panim el panim (face to face).
Share your face - and your voice - with your friends at Beth Tzedec by participating in our group performance of "True Colors", the emotional ballad made famous by Cyndi Lauper and covered by artists including Phil Collins, Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick.
Let's get started!
You can choose between two vocal parts:
- For voice 1, click here - Voice 1 (we recommend this one for women)
- For voice 2, click here - Voice 2 (we recommend this one for men)
But feel free to choose whichever you’d like :)
After you've learned your part, record and film yourself with a smartphone or a laptop. Submit your video with one of the forms we’ve linked to above, and that's it! Now all you need to do is wait patiently for your video premiere!
** Please note you have until Friday, July 30, before Shabbat begins, to learn your part, film yourself singing it and send it in **
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my voice be recognizable?
The point of this project is to sing as a community, just like we sing together at services. No individual voices will be heard - the team at Koolulam will blend our voices together into a single harmonious kehillah.
I can’t really sing and I’m not musical at all. Am I still able to participate?
Of course! We invite all Beth Tzedec members to join, no matter your musical skill or background. The point is for everyone to come together to make something beautiful.
Can my family participate as a group?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to sing with anyone you’d like- your partner, kids, parents, grandparents, friends and even your pet!
When can I see the final video?
We will be releasing the final video just in time for the High Holy Days at Beth Tzedec.
What happens if I miss the submission deadline?
Unfortunately, we will only be able to include videos submitted by Friday, July 30, before Shabbat. Late submissions will not be included.
