Yizkor: A Sacred Moment of Remembrance

Honouring loved ones. Finding comfort together.

Four times each year, the Jewish calendar invites us to pause and remember. Yizkor—which means “may God remember”—is a memorial service that offers space for reflection, prayer, and connection as we honour the memory of those who have died. Our clergy lead Yizkor services with care and compassion, creating a space where grief and gratitude can coexist.

Yizkor is recited on Yom Kippur, Shemini Atzeret (the 8th day of Sukkot), The last day of Pesach, and Shavuot.

These moments remind us that memory is woven into the rhythm of Jewish life—linking past, present, and future. In remembering together, we affirm that no one grieves alone. Beth Tzedec is here to walk with you, offering guidance, comfort and connection.

Beth Tzedec publishes an annual booklet with Yizkor prayers and other special readings, an opportunity to memorialize loved ones each year. This tradition ensures that names and stories live on in our community. For more information, please speak to Terri Humphries at the contact below.
