Interfaith Engagement
Beth Tzedec has a history of important interfaith engagement, going back many decades.
Toronto is one of the most diverse, dynamic cities in the world. With citizens here from every country, our neighbours represent numerous faiths and belief systems. Rather than feeling isolated within our “space” in the cultural mosaic, Beth Tzedec Congregation continues to play an important role in interfaith engagement with the broader Canadian faith community.
Our Rabbis actively engage in relationship building with leaders from across religious backgrounds. Whether we are advocating for greater understanding of Jewish religion and culture, or increasing our own understanding of others, we are committed to developing engagement. Recently we have been part of programs together with Timothy Eaton Memorial Church, Grace Church on the Hill, King St Community Church, The Simeon Institute, Heart to Heart, Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem, the University of St. Michael’s College as part of their diploma in interfaith dialogue —participating in their Faith & Food class, as well as our own programming and small groups geared to interfaith couples and families. By engaging in dialogue and collaboration, we model an authentic and dynamic Judaism that honours tradition while embracing openness.
Some of the Programs We Are Excited to Share:
Bridging the Gap, September 30
The BtG initiative, led by Randal Schnoor and an executive team of eight students, has been instrumental in creating safe spaces for healthy discussions about Israel-Palestine at York University.
Conversations of Curiosity, November, April 2027, May 2027
We will be meeting neighbours from Grace Church on the Hill, in an open-minded discussion based on curiosity, intent and kindness. There will be two cohorts (dates). If you would like to be involved, contact Rabbi Fryer Bodzin. As the Sesame Street Song says, "Who are the people in your neighborhood? The people that you meet each day".
