Martin Buber distinguishes two types of human relationships: I-It, where the “other” is someone to be used, analyzed or categorized; and I-Thou, where the “other” is encountered with mutual respect as a whole, present individual. Today, AI applications are able to predict our personal medical futures and can help guide mental health therapies. How might the undeniable usefulness of AI challenge our deeper understanding of ourselves and others?
