Event Series (See All)

Calling All Teens in Grades 8 to 12!

Join Yacov Fruchter to explore real-world ethical dilemmas through Jewish texts and prepare to compete in the Maimonides Moot Court Competition (MMCC), a North American Shabbaton and debate experience in New Jersey/ New York from April 8 to 11, 2027.

Following our successful inaugural year in which both of our Beth Tzedec teams won their competition, Beth Tzedec is participating again this year in Hadar’s Maimonides Moot Court Competition.

The experience includes Saturday afternoon learning and discussions—12:30 p.m. after Kiddush—based on Jewish texts, ethics and law, and culminates with a Shabbaton retreat and competition.

We are dividing our learning experience into two semesters:

Semester 1: Saturdays, November 7, 14, 21, 28 at 12:30 p.m.
The first semester will focus on exploring  a Jewish ethical issue as a way of becoming more comfortable with Torah and rabbinic texts and beginning the process of mankind
halakhic arguments. This will be a different topic than the one that will be debated in April.

Semester 2: Saturdays, January 16, 23 & 30, February 6, 20 & 27, March 6, 13, 20 & 27,
and April 3 at 12:30 p.m.
The April 3 session will be a “Nosh and Drosh” presentation in front of the Beth Tzedec community.

Sunday sessions: February 20 and March 7 at 3:30 p.m.

All participants in Grades 8 to 12 can choose to participate in either one or both semesters. Only teens in Grades 9 to 12 may choose to participate in the Shabbaton as per Hadar regulations.

For more information, contact Yacov Fruchter at yfruchter@beth-tzedec.org.

Please complete this form to participate by October 9. All are welcome to join, but members will receive priority to participate in the Shabbaton. To fill out the form, click HERE
