Youth & Teens
Belong. Lead. Grow—with purpose and joy.
The years from childhood through adolescence are when identity, confidence, and values take shape. At Beth Tzedec, we help young people feel they belong—socially, emotionally, and spiritually—while building lasting Jewish connections.
Our Youth & Teen programs go beyond just providing activities. They create friendships, mentorship, and meaningful experiences rooted in Jewish values and designed for real life. Led by Shirel Barkan-Slater, Youth & Teen Engagement Specialist, and supported by our clergy and educators, every child and teen is known, supported, and invited to find their place in our community.
Our Approach
Belonging First: We meet kids and teens where they are, creating inclusive spaces where friendships flourish.
Leadership and Agency: Teens don’t just attend—they lead. From planning events to serving on boards, they shape their own experience.
Jewish Pride and Purpose: Through learning, volunteering, and celebration, we nurture identity and values that last a lifetime.
Milestone Moments
Our B’nai Mitzvah Program guides families through this transition to Jewish adulthood with learning, meaning, and community—led by Daniel Silverman and Shirel Barkan-Slater.
Why It Matters
At Beth Tzedec, we give young people the tools to lead. This is a space to connect with friends, grow in Jewish pride, and approach life with purpose and joy.
UJA ShinShinim
Alma and Yonathan
The UJA ShinShinim, young emissaries, are a select group of post-high school—pre- obligatory national service—Israelis who are trained and highly skilled to work with Jewish institutions in the diaspora to raise the awareness and pride for Israel. They live with host families in the area and get to experience some of our Canadian life as they share their own experiences from Israel. They participate and help with programs and services throughout the year and offer a chance to form a personal connection to Israel. Our ShinShinim for 2025-2026 were Yonathan Chapal and Alma Korany.
