Cantor Chaim Stern

The Hennick Family Senior Cantor

A Heritage of Sacred Song

Chaim Stern is the Hennick Family Senior Cantor at Beth Tzedec Congregation in Toronto. A seventh-generation Jerusalemite born into a distinguished cantorial dynasty, he was raised in a traditional environment where he developed an innate passion for sacred music and the art of Jewish prayer. He honed his craft at the Petah Tikvah Cantorial School, studying under the mentorship of Maestro Elli Jaffe and Cantor Israel Rand. This rigorous training provided him with a masterful foundation in classical Eastern European Chazzanut while allowing him to integrate diverse contemporary influences.

The European Tenure: Munich (2020–2025)

From 2020 to 2025, Cantor Stern held the prestigious position of Chief Cantor of the Great Synagogue of Munich, one of Europe’s most historically significant Jewish communities. During his tenure, he became a central figure in revitalizing the community’s liturgical and cultural life, initiating high-profile concerts and interfaith programs that resonated across Germany and beyond. His international career has since spanned major synagogues and prestigious concert halls across Israel, Europe, Australia, and North America.

Symphonic Mastery & Global Stages

Renowned for his expressive tenor voice and profound musicality, Cantor Stern is recognized as a leading artist capable of bridging the world of traditional liturgy with modern musical sophistication. He has appeared as a featured soloist with world-class ensembles, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Rishon LeZion Symphony Orchestra, the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, the Jerusalem Camerata, and the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in Budapest. His performances have graced some of the world’s most renowned venues, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, and the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in Budapest.
